Lactate testing

Want to train more efficiently and reach new heights with less time and energy?

Mark Allen, a six-time Ironman winner, achieved his remarkable results by changing his approach to training through intensity control. Early in his career, Allen was known for pushing himself to exhaustion in almost every workout. Allen’s big breakthrough in 1989 came after a successful meeting with Dr. Phil Maffeton, who convinced him to reduce the frequency of intense workouts and increase the light ones. On Maffetone’s advice, Allen won his first of five consecutive (and six overall) Ironman titles at Kona in 1989. The “do more and do it faster” approach didn’t work in long races like Ironman, but “do more and control more” allowed him to climb to the top step of the podium in a race the world was just beginning to know.

Since 2023, with the purchase of a lactometer, our Triathlon Academy club members have started to use this method, i.e. to strictly control the intensity level of each workout with the help of a lactometer. Without any surprises, this has brought its own success. For example, Artjoms Gajevskis, a member of the Latvian triathlon team, and his coach Igors Gučanovičs actively used blood lactate measurements during the preparation period. This led to a drop from 4:24 minutes to 4:19 minutes in the 400 m pool. This approach was also the reason for the improved results in running. Thus, at the Olympic distance at the European Championships in Vichy, Artjoms set a record of 32:20 minutes for 10 km, and in the 5 km triathlon he achieved 15:30 minutes.

This experience shows the importance of the right approach to training. Regularly measuring your lactate levels and keeping track of your intensity without exceeding them is the key to smart training that can help you achieve maximum results with minimum time and energy expenditure.

The advantages of our tests

After the test, you will have a clear understanding of:

Your individual aerobic and anaerobic thresholds;

  1. Tempo and heart rate zones for future workouts;
  2. Choosing an individual training regime that is ideal for you;
  3. Affordable and friendly pricing;
  4. Mobility and ease of test.

In addition:

  • We will give you tips on how to improve and adapt your running technique.

Why is this important?

Controlling the intensity of your workouts gives you better results. Our tests help you train more efficiently and safely, which will reduce lactate levels at high loads to improve endurance, lactic acid utilisation and overall performance.

How is testing done?

  1. Fill in the form by clicking “Register” below.
  2. Be sure to choose the test: cycling or running.
    • Cycling test – conducted at your home on your trainer and bike. The trainer must be “smart” or at least have a power meter and a device that reads and records the power, e.g. a cycling computer/”ZWIFT” or other type of app.
    • Running test – to be carried out in one of the gyms in or near the city on a running treadmill.
  3. We will organise the rest!
